How to keep users interested in your mailing list


As a first step consider potential red flags which would make users weary of your mailing list. imagine yourself in the recipoients position dealing with potential spam mail. People are used to recieving unwanted mail from seemingly harmless mailing lists and as a result even harmless email can put users off.

Users are right to be weary as unsolicited emails are an enormous time-waster and a minefield of potential maleware. the email should be easily identifiable as having originated from a source that the user will consider friendly ie an email list for which they have voulontarily subscribed.

A second major factor to consider is the automated factor. many people have set up spam filthers on thier email accounts which will flag certain messages based on automated paramaters. filter systems are suceptable to error and have a tendancy to flag harmless emails because an algorithm has determined that they fit a certain profile. pay attention to what information is contained in the subject line.
navigating past the twin obstacles of user disinterest and automated filter screening is the main objective of a sucessful mailing list, once these twin problems have been conquered it is important to keep the good will of your subscribers by respecting the fact that they have other things to do with thier time.
